How does Ndigo ensure the safety and well-being of its students during classes?

General Safety Guidelines

  1. Emergency Contact Information:

    • We collect emergency contact details for all students during registration. Please ensure this information is kept up to date.

    • Emergency contact numbers and evacuation routes are displayed prominently in the studio.

  2. Trained Instructors:

    • Our instructors are trained in first aid and CPR and are equipped to handle emergencies.

    • Regular safety training sessions are conducted for our team.

  3. Studio Maintenance:

    • Floors, mirrors, and equipment are inspected regularly to ensure they are in good condition.

    • Proper lighting and ventilation are maintained in all studio areas.

  4. Emergency Drills:

    • Fire and evacuation drills are conducted twice a year to prepare students and staff for emergencies.


For Dance Classes (Ages 3 and Older)

  1. Supervision:

    • Young children are always supervised during class. Common areas like changing rooms, sitting areas and hallway's are not supervised. 

    • Teacher-to-student ratios are maintained to ensure personalised attention and safety.

  2. Warm-Up and Cool-Down:

    • Classes begin with warm-up exercises to prevent injuries and end with stretching to reduce muscle strain.

  3. Dress Code and Footwear:

    • Proper dance attire is mandatory to ensure safety and ease of movement.

    • Accessories and jewellery (example: necklaces, large earrings) that may cause choking or entanglement are not allowed.

  4. Health Conditions:

    • Parents/guardians must inform instructors of any health conditions, such as asthma or allergies, at the time of registration.

    • Our staff keeps this information accessible and handles it with confidentiality.

  5. Props and Equipment:

    • Props used in classes are safe, age-appropriate, and disinfected regularly.

  6. Behavioral Expectations:

    • Students are encouraged to respect personal space and follow class rules to prevent accidents.


For Yoga Classes (Adults)

  1. Health and Fitness Assessment:

    • Participants complete a health questionnaire before starting classes to ensure suitability.

    • Inform your instructor of any injuries, surgeries, or chronic conditions before the class.

  2. Clean and Safe Equipment:

    • Participants are encouraged to bring personal yoga mats, yoga blocks for hygiene reasons. 

     

  3. Instruction and Modifications:

    • Instructors focus on proper alignment and offer modifications to suit all fitness levels.

    • Physical adjustments are only made with prior consent from participants.

  4. Environment:

    • Classes are conducted in a calm and comfortable environment with suitable lighting and temperature.

  5. Breaks and Pacing:

    • Students are encouraged to take water breaks as needed and listen to their bodies during sessions.


Hygiene and Cleanliness

  1. Studio Cleanliness:

    • Floors, mirrors, and equipment are cleaned regularly.

    • The restrooms and changing areas are routinely sanitised.

  2. Personal Hygiene:

    • Students are encouraged to wash hands before and after classes.

    • Participants must clean any shared props or equipment after use.

  3. Health Precautions:

    • If you or your child feels unwell, please stay home to ensure the safety of others.


Emergency Protocols

  1. Minor Injuries:

    • Our instructors provide basic first aid and notify parents/guardians immediately if needed.

  2. Major Injuries:

    • Emergency services will be contacted for severe injuries, and parents/guardians will be informed right away.

  3. Evacuation Plan:

    • In case of emergencies, staff will guide students to safety following our evacuation procedures.

  4. Incident Reporting:

    • Any accidents or incidents are documented, and protocols are updated as necessary.


Communication with Parents/Guardians

    1. Orientation:

      • A digital copy of this protocol is available on our knowledge base for easy access.

      • Parents are encouraged to become familiar with our safety protocols beforehand.  

       

    2. Feedback:

      • We welcome feedback and encourage parents to report any concerns through our contact form or by speaking with our staff.
